Give Me Your Eyes

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

The Inevitable: Summer's End

I have to admit that I was a tad jealous - okay, terribly bitter - when Michael and Caden got out of school for the summer. The thought of spending 40 hours a week inside an air conditioned building while my two guys were at home playing in the pool drove me crazy! Totally NOT fair. How is it that Michael makes twice as much as I do AND gets 364 days off a year? I must've received the Hoax degree from Vanguard University...right? Despite my bitterness, it's been really great to see Michael and Caden's relationship flourish this summer. They've had so much fun together...and I've...well...enjoyed living vicariously through them ; )
Just a quick shout out to my incredible stay at home dad whom I'm going to miss...
Thank you babes for your thoughtfulness this summer. You are a good man and I appreciate you.
Now that the boys are back in school, I'm bracing myself for life in the fast lane. We are so busy during the school year, and last year I really struggled with juggling all the different hats. I constantly felt like I was letting someone down. So, in effort to be a better wife, mom, employee and all around person, I'm blessed to report that my boss allowed me to cut my hours and only work until 2:00 every day! (Thank you Elizabeth for encouraging me in this!) I already feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me.

Happy September Everyone!

How He Loves

Often the Holy Spirit will put lyrics to a song in my head. This is the one He blessed me with this morning as I woke up.....just wanted to share!

He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us so,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all

We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
So Heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…
He loves us.

Kids These Days

Saturday mornings in our house are pretty routine. Michael and Caden wake up at the crack of dawn and mom sleeps in. But last Saturday was a little different. I woke up at 7 a.m. and went downstairs to find my sweet little boy playing quietly at the kitchen table. I sat down next to him and said "Good morning sweetie...how are you?" He replied "Good" as usual. I start to walk away and I hear "Mom, I need to tell you something scary".
Ut oh. I sit back down.
"What's that honey?"
"Well...yesterday....when I was at school...Samantha's dad came up to me."
"When? While you were on the playground? After school?"
"After school...at the CDC."
"How come? What did he say?"
"I don't remember...nevermind."
"Caden, mommy needs to know what happened. You can tell me."
"Well, Samantha was being mean and making fun of me."
"And...."
"And I made fun of her back"
"What did Samantha say?"
"She said 'You're fat'
"And what did you say back to her?"
"I don't want to tell you"
"What did you say bubba?"
"I said 'Your mom's fat'

For the record, I had a much better poker face than my husband did when Caden and I told him the whole story at dinner. The shock factor got the best of him.

My Best Friend's Wedding

This year we spent Easter weekend with my family up in Lake Tahoe for my friend Sarah's wedding. Sarah's family and mine have been friends now for 20 some odd years, and although she moved to Texas, we've remained very close. The wedding was so intimate and special....and talk about the scenery! Michael and I both agreed that we could be mountain people...or at least small town people ; ) Doesn't everything seem to just s l o w down when you're outside of Orange County?
It was so nice to just relax and spend time with my family. And then the dreaded question came..."Mom, when are we going to have our Easter egg hunt?" Crap. I forgot the eggs. How did I forget to pack Easter eggs? I know how much Caden LOVES this silly tradition. Luckily, Grandma has that "I can't stand to see anyone I love unhappy" gene (which, by the way, was conveniently missing when I was growing up) and Caden got his Easter egg hunt. Leave it to Grandma to save the day.
Congratulations again Mr. and Mrs. Gill!!! We love you and know that you are going to have a happy marriage.

To Blog or Not to Blog

So, I guess I'm pretty bad at this blogging thing. There's just so much to say and so little time! I can't wait to show you pictures from Easter weekend....as soon as I get my camera back from sis. Until then, I hope everyone had a blessed week and we're praying hard for little Asher to come!!!!
